IS THERE A MINIMUM AGE?

Children under the age of 5 are not permitted to climb in the main area - our kids only climbing room called The Wild is designed for children aged 1–10 years.

What equipment do I need for bouldering?

For indoor bouldering, all you need is a pair of climbing shoes and a chalk bag – both are available to rent from reception upon arrival.

What should I wear for climbing?

Wear comfortable, flexible activewear — like leggings, shorts, and a T-shirt. Avoid anything too loose or restrictive to keep movement easy and safe.

How long does a climbing session last/ is there a time limit?

Most climbers boulder for 1–2 hours. If you’re a beginner, you may tire sooner. With a Climbing Day Pass there is no time limit; you can climb for as long as you like during our opening hours.

How fit do I need to be to start climbing?

If you can climb a flight of stairs, you’re fit enough to start climbing! Minimal fitness is needed for bouldering, and most beginners find that technique improves faster than strength.

WHAt is my membership cancelation policy?

When you take out a membership at Substation, there is a minimum payment term of 2 months. After this period you can notify us in writing to terminate your contract. So long as you request termination 2 days before your next billing cycle, no money will be taken, and your membership will be cancelled.

DO YOU HAVE LOCKERS AVAILABLE?

Yes, there are a limited number of coded lockers in the Male and Female changing rooms and a lot of lockers in the main climbing space that require you to bring a lock.

DO I ALWAYS HAVE TO BOOK IN ADVANCE?

No, you can always purchase passes at reception but we do have a capacity so during peak times we recommend booking to guarantee access.

IS MY SESSION TRANSFERABLE OR REFUNDABLE IF I CANNOT MAKE THE SESSION?

I LEFT MY THINGS AT SUBSTATION, WILL THEY STILL BE THERE?

Each night we collect all items left behind and store them in our lost and found. Please ask reception for your belongings next time you’re in.

Do you offer wheelchair access?

Yes. Brixton has an access ramp and disabled parking as well as lifts inside to access all areas! Our staff are trained to help should you need it. Just ask!

How do I cancel my CLIMBING MEMBERSHIP?

You can cancel your climbing membership by contacting us in writing at brixton@substation.co.uk. If you have joined since the 1st May 2025, there is a minimum payment term of 2 months, after this period you can cancel your contract. So long as you request termination 2 days before your next billing cycle, no money will be taken, and your membership will be cancelled.

How do I cancel my COMBINED MEMBERSHIP?

You can cancel your Combined membership by contacting us in writing at brixton@substation.co.uk, our staff will ensure you are removed from both the studio (Momence) and climbing (Roller) billing systems. If you have joined since the 1st May 2025, there is a minimum payment term of 2 months, after this period you can cancel your contract. So long as you request termination 2 days before your next billing cycle, no money will be taken, and your membership will be cancelled.

How do I cancel my Studio MEMBERSHIP?

You can cancel your Studio membership by logging into your Momence account. If you have joined since the 1st May 2025, there is a minimum payment term of 2 months, after this period you can cancel your contract. So long as you request termination 2 days before your next billing cycle, no money will be taken, and your membership will be cancelled.
